Halloween is a holiday that stimulates our imagination because it floods us with thousands of images: pumpkins, spiders, bats, colors, costumes, store decorations, movies, etc.
If you enjoy Halloween and feel like celebrating it by drawing, here are a few spooky (and also adorable, let’s be honest) ideas you can practice with.
1. Pumpkins
They are the quintessential image of Halloween, and can be drawn in a thousand different ways. They are very easy to make: just a rounded shape crossed with some lines, and a face that’s as simple as it gets: a mouth and black eyes (nose optional).
2. Ghosts
To draw a classic ghost (the sheet kind), you just need a rounded shape and a couple of dark eyes. They’re not very scary, but they are adorable.
3. Ghost with a Teddy Bear
A kawaii trick that makes characters adorable is combining two opposing elements. Shouldn’t a ghost be scary? Well, this ghost tenderly hugs its teddy bear to help it sleep at night.
4. Cemetery Tree
To draw the typical tree from horror landscapes, use more straight lines and draw the branches with several right angles. Typical Halloween details complete the drawing: crows, bats, tombstones, etc.
5. Kawaii Witch
All scary characters can be drawn in a kawaii or cute style. Witches, vampires, zombies, or monsters, with a big head, big eyes, and a small body, become super cute. Which one would you like to draw?
6. Haunted House
The secret to making any house look haunted is to make the walls a bit crooked and put broken or boarded-up windows.
7. Danse Macabre
Skeletons are fairly easy to draw because they don’t need to be realistic or have all their bones to be recognizable. It’s fun to draw them doing mundane things, like dancing or having coffee.
8. Vampire Emoji
An emoji is very easy to draw, and you can then tune it up with a few details to turn it into a Halloween character. Fangs and bat wings? A vampire. A black pointed hat? A witch. A square head with bolts? Frankenstein’s monster, etc.
9. Skull Flowers
We all know how to draw flowers. With a simple detail like adding a skull, you completely change their appearance.
10. The Witch’s Cat
The great thing about black cats is that any black spot with a tail and a pair of ears is immediately recognized as a feline. The witch’s or wizard’s hat is a fun touch, but the drawing looks great even without it.
11. Polaroids
Frame a super simple drawing inside a Polaroid, and you’ll see how it changes immediately. If you group several, they can turn into snapshots from a spooky experience.
12. Magic Book
Time to study dark magic. With some rectangles and circles, we can easily draw this, and customize it by adding other objects like a magic wand, poisonous mushrooms, or demon eyes.
13. Spooky Call
Horror movies have scenes that have become Halloween classics. Like the famous phone call from the serial killer that the victim takes as a joke.
14. Zombie Hand
Drawing hands isn’t easy—it’s something I really struggle with. But the good thing about a zombie hand is that even if it looks a little odd, it doesn’t matter! After all, it’s a zombie, and you’d expect it to be a bit deformed by decay 😂
15. Voodoo Doll
The trick to making a voodoo doll look creepy is to draw the stitching crooked and irregular.
16. Pumpkin Kid
Is it cute or horrifying? It all depends on the face you put on the pumpkin.
17. Evil Potion
Any glass bottle can be an evil potion if the contents are disgusting and terrifying: eyes, severed fingers, worms, spiders, snakes, skulls, etc.
18. Jar of Spiders
Spiders alone are already creepy, but a jar full of them? You won’t stop itching while drawing it.
